The Roger Stone Memorial Cup Season 2025/6 First Round kicked off last week and produced a feast of goals

Reading Time: 2 minutesThe Roger Stone Memorial Cup Season 2025/6 First Round kicked off last week and produced a feast of goals

There were battles royal between clubs to strive for a place in the Second Round and some very high scores produced from teams in different divisions coming together. Tiverton Town from Division South overcame stiff competition from Nailsea & Tickenham in Division North while Axminster Town also from Division South travelled some distance to face Brislington who have been members of Division North for many years. The League allowed the match to kick off at 8pm to compensate for this. Frome Town who had another long journey from the Division South travelled to Yate Town and were met by a very skillful side but their goalkeeper was a hero keeping the score down to 15 nil.

Winscombe had a difficult evening playing Hallen who have really got their season off to a flying start having reached the Third Round Qualifying of the FA Youth Cup. Together with Street and Tiverton Town they are the only League representatives remaining in it. But this has also been a great triumph for a large number of clubs in our league who have competed in that cup for the first time in their history.

There were few surprises in this round with perhaps the exception being Willand Rovers who are new to the League overcoming Mangotsfield Utd at Silver Street. Another new club, Bridgwater Utd, hosted Hengrove who won the tie comfortably. They both compete in the Central Division.

The Second Round of the Roger Stone Memorial League Cup has been finalised and will be played next week.  It throws up some mouth watering ties and has the potential to unseat favourites. There were no ties involving Premier Division clubs in the First Round but that is not the case here where Hallen take on Clevedon Town. This should produce a good battle between two good sides.

Portishead Town have a long journey having been drawn against Axminster Town whilst two local teams from different divisions lock horns at Tiverton Town who entertain Bishops Lydeard. Keynsham Town and Longwell Green Sports all have to travel some distance to their opponents.
