Player success through the League platform

This League was established many years ago to provide member clubs with the opportunity to develop their players to achieve promotion to the first team. In the last two seasons 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 there have been 245 players who have achieved this. However, this is only the tip of achievement as it takes no account of the number of appearances in those teams. Most senior clubs now have junior clubs as part of their framework whereby youngsters, some as young as 5, can be put through a development plan.

An example of this is Winscombe FC where they have 11 junior teams and last season some of their under 18’s made 116 appearances for their first team. “It’s something I’m very passionate about and something I will continue to encourage” the Head of Youth Development said. “I have an 18 year old, so I’m aware that it’s not an easy transition for many under 18’s. In my 3 years of being involved with WCFYL it certainly seems to set the players up for successful senior careers”
