Match Report – Paulton v Clevedon Thurs 20th November
Reading Time: 2 minutesPaul Davis provides a full match report on an entertaining Premier Division clash, as Paulton Rovers and Clevedon Town served up eight goals in a fast-paced encounter at the Winterfield Stadium.
PAULTON ROVERS 5 – 3 CLEVEDON TOWN
A superb hat-trick from Paulton’s Taylor Willis eventually settled a pulsating, end-to-end encounter at the Winterfield Stadium.
Paulton started brightly, with Seasiders’ keeper Josh Buckle called into early action to deny Alistair Wach and tip away a deflected Alex North free-kick. Clevedon responded well, and Paulton stopper Oliver Lewis saved smartly from Barney Lloyd-Jones, before keeping out George Pymm after good work from George Bellis down the right.
It was Clevedon who struck first after 18 minutes. A powerful run and driven cross from Jayden Russell found Lloyd-Jones, who took a touch, spun, and fired past Lewis for 1–0. Clevedon took full control for a spell: Russell had a shot blocked, Pymm went close, and another through-ball saw Lloyd-Jones flagged offside.
The Seasiders doubled their lead on 27 minutes, again through Russell’s delivery. His cross took a slight deflection, dropping perfectly for Lloyd-Jones to convert his second. Russell then had an effort ruled out for offside before Paulton grabbed a lifeline as a heavily deflected shot looped over Buckle to make it 2–1.
Clevedon felt they should have had a penalty on 41 minutes when Lloyd-Jones appeared to be tripped just inside the area, but appeals were waved away. Further pressure saw Lewis push out a deep Pymm cross and palm away a Lloyd-Jones effort, sending Clevedon into the break with a 2–1 advantage.
Paulton introduced Harvey Wroe and Sean Markey at half-time and came out transformed. After Lloyd-Jones saw an early effort blocked, the hosts took control and levelled on the hour when Alistair Wach drove through the middle and slotted low into the corner.
Five minutes later it was 4–2 as a far-post cross was turned in by Willis, and Clevedon’s task became tougher on 70 minutes when captain Jack Ford received a second yellow card. Willis continued to threaten, forcing Buckle into further saves before the Clevedon keeper pushed a free-kick away and saw the rebound fly over.
Clevedon reshaped with the introductions of Fred Doyle and Freddie Everson, which helped steady things. Buckle remained busy, denying Willis again, before the Seasiders pulled one back: a tidy build-up involving Everson and Bond sent Lloyd-Jones down the left, and his cross was met by Bond to make it 4–3.
Paulton pressed again and Buckle produced a fine double save to deny Alfie Ford, but as Clevedon tired, Willis completed his hat-trick in the final minute to seal a 5–3 win for the hosts.
