Clevedon Town v Portishead Town

This was a local derby and the pace of the game lived up to it. Portishead got off to a cracking start making the Clevedon Town goalkeeper Frankie Walker bring off a series of goal bound saves. The game really came alight when no 9 Joe Hill hit an unstoppable shot into the corner of the Clevedon net straight from a corner. The game then ebbed and flowed but Portishead Town had the better of the exchanges and looked like scoring a few times except for the brave and skilful saves of keeper Franke Walker. With 40 minutes gone Joe Hill hit another screamer into the net: 2-0 half time.

The second half saw Clevedon Town press forward several times without really troubling the Portishead goalkeeper Sam Peacey. A number of substitutions were made by both sides. The game then slowed down but it was a very competitive and sporting match although the yellow card was brandished a few times and one player was sent off after receiving two yellows.

A penalty scored by Ciaran Wall for Portishead on 87 minutes put the match beyond Clevedon reach.

Your correspondent was pleasantly surprised to see Dave Lukins in the Portishead Technical Area.

It is interesting to note that from the two teams tonight Joe Hill and Frankie Walker have already had first team experience this season with Clevedon Town and Portishead Town have had Rio Fitton and Cody Coumbe. What a testament to the Western Counties Floodlight Youth League platform provided to give clubs the opportunity to develop their players.

Referee Toby Franklin had a good match. He was up with play and his control was excellent.

It was a great match to watch with a crowd of over 100.
