Roger Stone Memorial Cup
Oldland and Sherborne kicked off the season with a Roger Stone Memorial Cup tie played in a great spirit by both sides.
The football was quick from both teams, with action at both ends of the pitch. Oldland goalkeeper Arthur Wood had a fine game between the posts — footage of some of his best saves is attached. Oldland took the lead first, but Sherborne equalised just before half-time to make it 1-1 at the break.
The second half moved into overdrive, with goals galore as both sides put in maximum effort. Oldland’s goals came from George Smith (1) and Sam Hodge (2). Sherborne’s scorers were captain Mason O’Keeffe and Bertie Brind, before substitutes Adam Buckley and Jake Lomax (2) added further goals. The game finished 5-3 to Sherborne, who progress to the next round of the cup.
The quality of play and sportsmanship on display were excellent — a real credit to the league — and the atmosphere around the ground was terrific, with supporters making themselves heard throughout.
Finally, thanks to officials Kevin Slade and his two linesmen, Dave Heath and Martin Hills, who received excellent marks of 100 and 90 from the two teams for their work.
