Can’t wait for the new season
Reading Time: 2 minutesMuch more to come shortly before kick off
Heading into the new season the Management Committee have been looking at the objectives of the League and what it stands for. We have 36 clubs with more wanting to join every year because the League provides a terrific platform for them to develop their own players. In the last 2 seasons 245 players have been promoted to the parent first teams. We have welcomed the following clubs into our competition: Avonmouth, Larkhall Athletic, Thornbury Town, IllmisterTown and, Sherborne Town.
Last season we had fantastic competition from clubs in all four divisions trying to win promotion and Portishead Town being crowned champions of the Premier Division.
In the South, newcomers Tiverton Town in their first season were promoted to the Premier Division. It was really great to see Hengrove, long time members of the League to also gain promotion from the Central and be joined by Yate Town from the North. Well done all.
There were big matches in the Roger Stone Cup with some notable and talented clubs falling at early stages of the competition. The final played at Paulton Rovers was a great game between Longwell Green Sports and Tiverton Town. The latter team ran out worthy winners. Well done all those teams that participated in matches.
There is great interest to see how the fixtures have been compiled. It is hoped to have these published within the next week.
Our desire to embrace the digital age by removing paper documents has got off to a great start making life easier for the clubs. Lee Williams was the creator of these. Unfortunately for us he has a new job and understandably had to step down. We are continually looking to expand this and we will have more information as the season progresses.
The other new jewel in our armoury is the website designed and managed by Phil Wiltshire. This was a seismic move to improve showcasing of players achievements. We could do with many more match reports to upload during the season.
