It was my 2nd cup final of the week as I took in @wcfyl action as Longwell Green took on Tiverton in the Roger Stone Memorial cup at the home of Paulton Rovers FC having watched a lot of this league through the course of the season this was sure to serve up a classic and it didn’t disappoint…
It was a fast start for Tiverton and through their dominance they took the lead when header rebounded back and was fired home low into the bottom corner, they went on to control the next 5/10 minutes but then Longwell started to grow into the half, a screamer from distance levelled things up at 1-1 (sadly missed the goal on video) and also levelled up the contest on the pitch, it was end to end both teams putting on a great display with arguably Longwell ending the half the stronger team as we went into the break…
Second half and it was very much or one way, Tiverton came out the traps hungry and didn’t take their foot off the gas, it was them that would find the net Next when the lad was unmarked in the box following a corner to head home, they continued to show their dominance as they pressed for a 3rd and possibly the goal that would have killed the game for Longwell, it’s came on 84 minutes again from a corner and again an unmarked header which was headed down and into the back of the net…. Longwell tried their hardest but with time running out it, Tiverton looked to have secured it… full-time whistle blows and it’s the young lads in yellow celebrating at full-time….
A truly fantastic contest played between two fantastic young sides, a lot of talent on display Who I’m sure will have great careers in the non-league game… well done to the Western Counties Floodlight League for a fantastic end of season showpiece 🙌🏼
