Match Report – Axminster v Shepton Mallet Tues 30th December

Axminster Tigers produced an impressive all-round performance on Tuesday evening as they ran out 5–1 winners at home against Shepton Mallet, with Uriel Orimoloye delivering a dominant display in midfield.

The visitors struck first, but Axminster responded superbly, led by the commanding presence of Orimoloye. His relentless pressure on the Mallet defence proved pivotal, forcing a corner which he then met with a powerful header to draw the Tigers level.

Axminster continued to press, although clear chances were not easy to come by. The Shepton Mallet goalkeeper was kept busy throughout the half, producing a string of fine saves to keep his side in the contest. However, Axminster’s persistence eventually told, adding two further goals before the break to take a deserved 3–1 lead into half-time.

The second half followed a similar pattern, albeit at a slightly reduced tempo as the Tigers felt the effects of an energetic first-half performance. Shepton Mallet were afforded a few half chances, but the Axminster defence remained largely in control.

A series of substitutions injected fresh energy into the home side, and it was Orimoloye once again who made the difference, calmly finishing to claim his second goal of the night. Axminster were not finished there, adding a fifth soon after to cap a convincing team display.

While the result firmly belonged to the Tigers, credit must go to Shepton Mallet’s young goalkeeper, who made numerous outstanding saves and was arguably the away side’s man of the match.

A strong performance and a deserved victory for Axminster, with Orimoloye’s commanding display rightly earning him Man of the Match honours.
