The month got off to a good start but soon went downhill as storm Bram took hold decimating fixtures in the middle of the month. In the last 2 weeks the weather did pick up allowing the Qtr Final of the League Cup to be completed. The Semi Final clubs are Longwell Green Sports, Hallen, Tiverton Town and Yate Town. The draw will be made at the management committee meeting in early January. I get quite a few questions about extra time in cup matches. There is no extra time its straight to penalties if the match is drawn after 90 minutes play.

The final is at Paulton Rovers on Thursday 16th April KO 7.30pm. The 4 semi-finalists are all very capable of winning the cup. The final will be a cracker so please make a note of the date in your diaries and try to attend.

The use of video is a very useful tool in allowing clubs to show when matches are unplayable. Every club has now used this medium successfully. Previously clubs were required to produce a photograph of the state of the pitch but that didn’t show groundsmen walking through squelchy mud or surface water like a video.

In the Somerset FA County Cup, the draw has been made for the 3rd Round to be played to be played on Sunday 11th January at 2pm: Western County Floodlight Youth League clubs compete in the following ties, Yeovil Town v Portishead Town; Odd Down v Portishead Town; Frome Town v Wells City; Bishops Lydeard v Larkhall Athletic; Chard Town v Staplegrove; Radstock Town v Bridgwater Utd.

In the Gloucestershire FA County Cup, only the following three make it through to the Quarter Final to be played on Sunday 1sT February at 2pm: Cribbs v Yate Town; Tuffley Rovers v Hallen.

Congratulations to those clubs.

Unfortunately, our Devon clubs could not make it past the 3rd Round

In the League programme Portishead Town still lead the Premier table ahead of Taunton Town and Odd Down with Mangotsfield Utd now joining them at the top end of the table. In North Division, Keynsham Town are slowly inching away at the top of the table although they have played more games than Almondsbury and Brislington who are hot on their heels. whilst in Central Division Hengrove have put on a spurt to head the table by seven points although Bristol Manor Farm remain the dark horse of the group having played 3 games fewer than Hengrove. Look at the number of goals they have scored – 37 already! Wellington and Willand Rovers are neck and neck at the top of the South Division table but watch out for Tiverton Town who have only played 3 league games because of the League Cup and FA Youth Cup.

The season is hotting up nicely. As I go round the grounds it is very pleasing to see how supported our clubs are – well done all.
